The Prison Pastor

Hello and welcome! I'm Henning Dierolf, the host of the Heyrolf podcast.

In this podcast, I describe a typical pastoral conversation in a Swabian/Württemberg prison in Heilbronn, southern Germany, between a prison inmate and the Swabian pastor Albrecht Sauti. In light of the previous podcasts, listeners are encouraged to keep the broader context in mind and to question the described situation critically.

We are in the Heilbronn prison on Swabian/Württemberg territory. Prison pastor Albrecht Sauti is conducting a pastoral care conversation with Franz, an inmate who is serving time for manslaughter.

After spending a considerable amount of time in prison and isolation, the inmate has developed a sufficient awareness of his guilt. His previous assumptions about good and evil have been shaken.

His judgment has become even more superficial than before the crime, and he is now completely unable to distinguish whether the person in front of him is a Baden, a Franconian, or a Swabian at heart.

The constraints he is subjected to in prison limit him not only spatially but also mentally.

This is now the moment for the Swabian pastor Sauti to get involved.

Sauti tells Franz that something has gone terribly wrong with him and that the clarity he had fought for under the difficult circumstances of his upbringing and environment was not and will never be good for him.

So Albrecht Sauti says: Oh my, Franz, how could you stab Karl, a proven Baden native!

You can't kill someone so bluntly in a way that deserves public condemnation! Anyone doing this is doomed to be convicted by the state authorities! Now you have a dilemma as you are guilty, dirty, unclean and marked for life. Even decades from now, they will still hold your actions and crime against you! You will never be able to rid yourself of this guilt!

This will hinder your love and faith! Never again can you be truly Franconian, and you certainly can no longer bring about greater freedom for the Franconian people!

Of course, you could never clearly realize this purpose of life for yourself!

Let it be Franz! Let it be!

It was your fate that you couldn't tell the difference between someone Baden at heart and someone Swabian at heart! Thank God you didn't kill a Swabian!

Well, I am here, the Swabian Albrecht Sauti, and I am here for you! Look at me, I am purely good and the only one here who cares about you. You must read the Bible more, and I will be the one to guide you!

My dear Franz, world peace is the goal. Believe what the Swabians believe and you will find salvation in Jesus Christ! You should strive for paradise with us so that everyone will finally be equal and there will be joy, happiness, and prosperity for all.

Love your neighbors! Love your enemies!

If only you would believe what is written in the Holy Bible, you would be purified and would no longer brutally kill others as you have done in the past!

In the future, the Swabian Church will accompany you, even beyond your prison sentence, to ensure you get onto the right track and stay on it.

We will continue to take care of your family, your wife and your children, as we have done for a long time! You can count on that! Maybe we can even help you find a job once you are released. That is how good we are!

Aren't those good prospects?

Here and now is the time for you to change! It's like a reorientation of the heart! Imagine you survived a heart attack and after being resuscitated, you have the chance to start over with a pacemaker.

In the future, work hard for the greater Swabia because if you do, you're not just doing me a favor, you're doing a lot of good people a favor! You'll be rewarded and held in higher regard by everyone, including your wife and children, and you'll finally be doing what is truly good and right. The Swabians will take care of you! They are an incredibly good people, just as good as me, the messenger of God, the representative of (Swabian) Jesus!

So Franz, as you can see, I am the way to the light and will help you find the place in society you deserve.

So, let's celebrate mass every week and study the Bible together.

Der Gefängnispfarrer

Hallo und willkommen! Ich bin Henning Dierolf, der Gastgeber des Heyrolf-Podcasts.

In diesem Podcast beschreibe ich ein typisches Seelsorgegespräch in einem schwäbischen/württembergischen Gefängnis in Heilbronn, Süddeutschland, zwischen einem Gefängnisinsassen und dem schwäbischen Pfarrer Albrecht Sauti. Vor dem Hintergrund der vorherigen Podcasts sind die Zuhörer aufgefordert, den größeren Zusammenhang im Auge zu behalten und die beschriebene Situation kritisch zu hinterfragen.

Wir sind im Heilbronner Gefängnis auf schwäbischem/württembergischem Gebiet. Der Gefängnispfarrer Albrecht Sauti führt ein Seelsorgegespräch mit Franz, einem Insassen, der wegen Totschlags eine Haftstrafe verbüßt.

Nach einer längeren Zeit im Gefängnis und in Isolation hat der Insasse ein ausreichendes Schuldbewusstsein entwickelt. Seine bisherigen Vorstellungen von Gut und Böse sind erschüttert.

Sein Urteilsvermögen ist noch oberflächlicher geworden als vor der Tat, und er kann jetzt überhaupt nicht mehr unterscheiden, ob der Mensch vor ihm im Herzen Badener, Franke oder Schwabe ist.

Die Zwänge, denen er im Gefängnis ausgesetzt ist, schränken ihn nicht nur räumlich, sondern auch mental ein.

Jetzt ist der Moment gekommen, in dem der schwäbische Pfarrer Sauti ins Spiel kommt.

Sauti sagt Franz, dass etwas mit ihm schiefgelaufen ist und dass die Klarheit, für die er unter den schwierigen Umständen seiner Kindheit und Umgebung gekämpft hat, nicht gut für ihn war und nie gut für ihn sein wird.

Also sagt Albrecht Sauti: Oh Mann, Franz, wie konntest du Karl, einen waschechten Badener, erstechen!

Man kann doch nicht jemanden so unverblümt töten, dass man dafür öffentlich verurteilt wird! Wer so etwas tut, ist dazu verdammt, von den staatlichen Behörden verurteilt zu werden! Jetzt steckst du in einem Dilemma, denn du bist schuldig, schmutzig, unsauber und für dein Leben gezeichnet. Selbst in Jahrzehnten wird man dir deine Tat und dein Verbrechen noch vorhalten! Du wirst dich niemals von dieser Schuld befreien können!

Das wird deine Liebe und deinen Glauben behindern! Nie wieder kannst du ein echter Franke sein, und du kannst sicherlich nicht mehr größere Freiheit für das fränkische Volk erreichen!

Natürlich konntest du diesen Lebenszweck für dich selbst nie klar erkennen!

Lass es sein, Franz! Lass es sein!

Es war dein Schicksal, dass du den Unterschied zwischen jemandem, der im Herzen Badener ist, und jemandem, der im Herzen Schwabe ist, nicht erkennen konntest! Gott sei Dank hast du keinen Schwaben getötet!

Nun, ich bin hier, der Schwabe Albrecht Sauti, und ich bin für dich da! Schau mich an, ich bin rein gut und der Einzige hier, der sich um dich kümmert. Du musst mehr in der Bibel lesen, und ich werde dich dabei begleiten!

Mein lieber Franz, das Ziel ist der Weltfrieden. Glaub an das, woran die Schwaben glauben, und du wirst Erlösung in Jesus Christus finden! Du solltest mit uns nach dem Paradies streben, damit endlich alle gleich sind und es Freude, Glück und Wohlstand für alle gibt.

Liebe deine Nächsten! Liebe deine Feinde!

Wenn du nur glauben würdest, was in der heiligen Bibel steht, würdest du gereinigt werden und nicht mehr andere brutal töten, wie du es in der Vergangenheit getan hast!

In Zukunft wird die schwäbische Kirche dich auch über deine Haftstrafe hinaus begleiten, um sicherzustellen, dass du auf den richtigen Weg kommst und auch darauf bleibst.

Wir werden uns weiterhin um deine Familie, deine Frau und deine Kinder kümmern, so wie wir es schon seit langer Zeit tun! Darauf kannst du dich verlassen! Vielleicht können wir dir sogar helfen, einen Job zu finden, wenn du entlassen wirst. So gut sind wir!

Sind das nicht gute Aussichten?

Jetzt ist die Zeit für dich, dich zu ändern! Es ist wie eine Neuausrichtung des Herzens! Stell dir vor, du hättest einen Herzinfarkt überlebt und nach der Wiederbelebung die Chance, mit einem Herzschrittmacher neu anzufangen.

Arbeite in Zukunft hart für das größere Schwaben, denn damit tust du nicht nur mir einen Gefallen, sondern vielen guten Menschen! Du wirst von allen belohnt und geschätzt werden, auch von deiner Frau und deinen Kindern, und du wirst endlich das tun, was wirklich gut und richtig ist. Die Schwaben werden sich um dich kümmern! Sie sind ein unglaublich gutes Volk, genauso gut wie ich, der Bote Gottes, der Vertreter des (schwäbischen) Jesus!

Also Franz, wie du siehst, bin ich der Weg zum Licht und werde dir helfen, den Platz in der Gesellschaft zu finden, den du verdienst.

Also lass uns jede Woche die Messe zelebrieren und gemeinsam die Bibel studieren.
